MBH opened its doors in the late 1990’s when a sister acknowledged the many issues and concerns of her brother who had struggled with recovery and a dual diagnosis. She had no idea of what all could be done for those in his similar situation, but did know for sure how she wanted her brother to live and be respected in his recovery environment. With encouragement from her mother, she answered a call from an agency that needed housing for its dual diagnosis clients in a home setting. She opened a small four bed house in a garden setting. The need quickly grew and expanded to another Westside location. As a requirement of working with the contracting agency, MBH had to be accredited by the Los Angeles County Sober Living Coalition. In the accreditation process, MBH has worked closely with the Coalition in maintaining standards and ethical qualities of member houses, as well as attending workshops and Coalition meetings held regularly. MBH has collaborated with other agencies in providing housing for their clients. These agencies are Exodus, DiDi Hirsh, Walden House and the Veterans Administration, as well as a great resource to the recovery community . At the core of MBH, is the vision of ‘family’. We are a family living together to stay clean and sober to sustain recovery, not relapse. We are a family establishing a recovery environment that will expand into the recovery community.
